Physiotherapist-led Clinical Pilates with added strength and conditioning principles
What Is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates uses Pilates-based exercises that are individually selected and modified according to your assessment, physical abilities and goals.
Unlike a general Pilates class, Clinical Pilates has a greater focus on individual assessment and exercise prescription. Your program may incorporate Pilates equipment alongside traditional strength and rehabilitation exercises to improve strength, mobility, movement control and physical capacity.
At Beaumaris Physio & Health, we have access to Reformers, Trapeze Tables, Ladder Barrels, free weights and squat racks. This means your rehabilitation is not limited to Pilates exercises alone. Your program can progress from controlled rehabilitation exercises through to more challenging strength and conditioning as appropriate.

What Equipment Is Used for Clinical Pilates?
Our Beaumaris Clinical Pilates and rehabilitation studio includes a range of Pilates and strength-training equipment, including:
- Pilates Reformers
- Trapeze Tables
- Ladder Barrels
- Free weights
- Squat racks
- Strength and rehabilitation equipment
Having access to both Pilates and traditional strength equipment allows us to select exercises according to what you need rather than being limited to one particular style of exercise.
Your program can be modified and progressively challenged as your strength, movement and confidence improve.

What Can Clinical Pilates Help With?
Clinical Pilates and individualised exercise rehabilitation may be suitable for people wanting to improve their strength, mobility, movement control and general physical function.
Depending on your individual circumstances, it may form part of your rehabilitation or management for:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Sports injuries
- Hip and knee conditions
- Shoulder conditions
- Post-injury rehabilitation
- Post-operative rehabilitation, where appropriate
- Reduced strength or mobility
- Balance and movement control
- Returning to exercise following injury
- Improving general strength and conditioning
Our ability to combine Pilates equipment with progressive strength training means your program can evolve as your rehabilitation needs change.

What Is the Difference Between Clinical Pilates and Regular Pilates?
While Clinical Pilates and traditional Pilates can use similar exercises and equipment, there are important differences in how the exercise program is developed.
A general Pilates or Reformer class may follow a program designed for a group. Clinical Pilates places greater emphasis on your individual assessment, physical capabilities, injury history and rehabilitation goals.
At Beaumaris Physio & Health, we are also not restricted to Pilates equipment. Your program may combine exercises on the Reformer, Trapeze Table or Ladder Barrel with free weights, resistance exercises and strength training using our squat racks.
This allows your program to progress according to your needs and goals rather than simply progressing through increasingly difficult Pilates exercises.

Clinical Pilates for Back Pain and Injury Rehabilitation
Clinical Pilates is commonly incorporated into exercise rehabilitation for people experiencing back pain or recovering from musculoskeletal injuries.
Your program may initially focus on comfortable movement, mobility, strength and movement control before progressively increasing the physical demands as appropriate.
As your rehabilitation progresses, exercises can transition from Pilates-based movements to more challenging resistance and strength exercises using free weights and other gym-based equipment.
The aim is to build the strength, movement and physical capacity you need for everyday life, work, exercise or returning to sport.

Clinical Pilates for Strength, Mobility and Healthy Ageing
You do not need to be injured to benefit from an individualised Clinical Pilates and exercise program.
Clinical Pilates can also provide a structured approach to improving strength, mobility, balance and confidence with movement.
Our combination of Pilates and strength-training equipment allows programs to be adapted to different ages, abilities and goals. Exercises can then be progressively modified as your strength and physical capacity improve.
This can make Clinical Pilates particularly suitable for people who want to remain strong, active and confident with movement as they get older.

What is Clinical Pilates?

What is the difference between Clinical Pilates and Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates describes Pilates exercise performed using a Reformer and is often delivered as a general exercise class. Clinical Pilates is more individually focused and may incorporate a range of equipment and exercises according to your needs.

Is Clinical Pilates good for back pain?
Clinical Pilates may be incorporated into a physiotherapy and exercise rehabilitation program for people experiencing back pain. Your program should be individually selected according to your presentation, physical abilities and goals, as the same exercises will not be appropriate for every person experiencing back pain.
Do I need to be injured to do Clinical Pilates?
No. Clinical Pilates can be used for injury rehabilitation, but it can also be used by people wanting to improve their strength, mobility, balance, movement and general physical function.
