Most Australians are unaware that the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) guideline on the management of knee and hip osteoarthritis strongly recommends exercise therapy, education, and weight loss as a first line non-surgical treatment for all people with osteoarthritis.
The evidence and data, one year after Australians completed GLA:D demonstrated why this program is receiving so much recognition and is being referred to by GPs. The data below is taken on year after completion of the program:
- 35-42% average pain reduction
- 17-29% participants reduced pain and medication use
- 38-39% improvement in joint-related quality of life
- 3 in 4 knee OA participants who desired surgery had not followed through with surgery
- 5 in 8 hip OA participants who desired surgery had not followed through with surgery
You must be an accredited practitioner to administer the GLA:D program.
At Beaumaris Physio & Health we run our program direct out of our brand new pilates and rehab studio.
